She’s drawing flowers
\nand reaches for the semi-final color
\nwith most peculiar motion
\nas if knowing in advance
\nthe hoped-for, longed-for variation
\nis never to be found, no –
\nnot even for a first time,
\nnot even for a sparkling second
\nQuietly she wonders
\nThen the next sheet is removed –
\nhumble negation of any lucky chance:
\nSuch does not exist,
\nnot in this room
\nnot in her fingers.
\nThis knowledge has to do with fire
\nthat burned the bush and did not consume it
\n(Or, did it, finally?)
\nLittle does she know, little is she known
\nThe flowers are slowly bending over
\nTheir small reward remains unnoticed
\nBut, sadly, even this is life.
